The Poverty-Disability Cycle

There are 500 million people living with the double disadvantage of poverty and disability in our world. 200 million of these are children.

Poverty and disability are inextricably linked. If you have an already poor family who has a disabled family member, they will inevitably be the poorest family in their village. They are the poorest of the poor. And the poorest of the poor are at heightened risk of developing more disability. They can’t afford medical care or education or clean water.

It’s a vicious cycle that drags whole families into deeper poverty and suffering.

How you are helping

We can break the cycle of poverty and disability, by making sure children with disabilities get the access they need to medical care and education… that their parents can access appropriate, often home-based employment opportunities.
