Give hope and healing to a woman suffering from fistula today.
Editha suffered a double tragedy: the death of her baby,
and the trauma of fistula.
Give Hope and Healing
During prolonged labour, pressure from the baby’s head can crush the tissue between the vagina and the bladder or rectum, creating a hole called a fistula. This allows urine or feces to leak into the vagina, leading to incontinence.
For three excruciating days Editha was in labour as her baby’s head was stuck in the birth canal. Tragically, her baby died. However, during labour, a hole had been torn between Editha’s bladder and the birth canal. Since that day, she has leaked urine constantly.
Editha is isolated and lonely. “People say I smell. I stopped going to church. If someone in the community dies, I haven’t even been able to go to their funeral.”
Editha was told she could receive free treatment for her fistula, thanks to the generosity of cbm donors.
“I had been nervous, but when I came in here I saw how many of us there are; how many of us need help. I’m happy being with the nurses here. They are so kind. They stay with us as if they are relatives…” Editha is looking forward to her surgery, knowing she will be healed from the pain of exclusion and disabling incontinence.
“When I get home I will tell other women that need help to come get it. Most women like me are poor and cannot afford it… Many thanks to the people who support cbm. They are so kind and God will reward them for their kindness.”
